Project Integration Management involves the coordination of process group activities through identifying, defining, combining, and coordinating each of the various processes.

4.4 - Monitor and Control Project Work

Process Definition

This process involves two distinct processes; monitoring, and controlling.  Monitoring involves the collection, evaluation, and distribution of project performance data compared to the project scope and management plans.  Controlling involves the recommendation of changes necessary to improve project performance and maintain the project scope nd plan.  The key benefit to this process is that it allows project management to work closely with stakeholders and keep them informed of any changes to the scope, budget, or schedule.  

Process Assessment

Perhaps the most important of all project manager responsibilities, this process is where the rubber meets the road.  If a project is to succeed, it must follow a charted course, and only change course with approved direction.  Schedule and cost forecasts serve as a monitoring standard for project management to quickly assess performance and identify the need for any changes.  Monitoring and controlling work together to help ensure a projects objectives are achieved.
