13.2 Plan Stakeholder Management

The Plan Stakeholder Management process is where approaches to manage stakeholder engagement are developed and documented.  During this process stakeholder needs, interest and impact on the project are analyzed and an engagement stratagem is develped.  It provides a distinctly workable interaction plan for working with project stakeholders at varying degrees of priority, timeliness and methodology. The Inputs, Tool & Techniques and Outputs are listed below in figure 27

Process Definition

This plan establishes how stakeholders and the project deliverables affect one another.  It provides the Project team an understanding of how, when and who to communicate with for each stage of the project.  It can also dictate what types of information is to be provided with what stakeholders.  During Project progression the requirements may change and so may the stakeholder management plan making this also an iterative process.

Process Assessment

Knowing who, when and what to provide for stakeholders helps to meet the objective of this and the project  communications plan.  Many things can influence the stakeholder management plan to include local customs, language, ability and preference of certain types of media for communication or stakeholder skill.  Stakeholder needs to know is also critical; not all stakeholders need to know all information.

Artifacts

 Input

In PMGT611 we developed the following stake holder register for our IT software update project of a university.  It provides the basic information for the Plan Stakeholder Management Plan in that it provides a list of the stakeholders, their positions, responsibilities and contact information. see 13.2.1

Tools & Techniques

In developing expert judgement regarding stakeholder engagement I was required in PMGT502 to analyze and document the stakeholder engagement process.  The artifact WBS7.3 Blog Troy Stempfley managing stakeholder engagement is that documents.  It describes what I've learn about the process. see 13.2.2

Output

In PMGT502 I was required to develop my own stakeholder reporting procedures.  It turned out to be a Stakeholder management plan with all the inclusive parts.  I have been known to go a little over kill on some of my projects.  see 13.2.3
