12.2 Conduct Procurements

The Conduct Procurement process is where the project team researches evaluates and selects a seller or contractor, based on quality, value and schedule This process helps to line up internal and external stakeholders expectations though written agreements The Input, Tools & Techniques and outputs for this process are listed in figure 34 below.12.2 fig 34 p371.pngFigure 34. Process Definition

During this process bids and proposals are received and evaluated against the project and buyers proposal criteria.  Quality timing and cost are critical aspects of these evaluations.  Also the viability of the proposal is crucial.  For the most part the project owner (buyer) is overall responsible for the feasibility of the project, however ethically the project manager should be able to inform a client of problems.  Also decision on whether to build or buy may come from these analysis.

Process Assessment

This process is something we did very little of at the academic level. Most projects didn't have a purchase element.  One or two had contractual inputs required.  But this process can make or break a project.  A wrong decision on who, where, or what to buy can impact the schedule, cost and final quality of the project.

Artifacts

Input

For the input artifact I've chosen to upload a procurement letter composed during PMGT614 for an addition to our bicycle project. It qualifies for this spot because it is a document proposing a seller based on their ability to meet the project cost and schedule. see 12.2.1

Tools & Techniques

For the tools and techniques I decided to have a little fun.  In PMGT 524 we were required to propose a project then evaluate its viability though the use of analytical tools.  So this artifact should cover the analytical techniques and proposal evaluation processes.  My project is one near and dear to my heart; I evaluated whether to restore or perform a restoration modification on my 67 Chevelle SS. see 12.2.2

Output

The output artifact I've chosen is a proposed contractual agreement with a construction company to outsource a portion of our LEED home project in PMGT501. This meets the requirement for an agreement for procurement of services.  see 12.2.3.
