4.2 Develop Project Management Plan

Process Definition

The develop project management plan process establishes, develops and synchronizes all the subsequent planning processes tying them to a comprehensive plan to manage the project.  This in essence creates a single administrative document which becomes the foundation for the project execution. Taken from the PMBOK Guide the inputs, tools and techniques and outputs of the Develop Project Management Plan process are listed in figure 4

Process Definition

The develop project management plan process serves mostly as an organizational tool.  Kind of a checklist to ensure the processes required to effectively execute the project at in place.  It does appear a little confusing as the initial component of the Planning Process Group in that the output, the Project Management Plan, requires all the subsidiary plans to be in place.  This is another reason this process is iterative.

Artifacts

Input

During this program we were required to perform an evaluation and make recommendations for process improvement on a selected business.  My group choose to evaluate Crossfit Inc. This evaluation meets part of the Organizational Process Assets and Enterprise Environmental Factors Inputs; in that, it identified the organizational assets and industry standards that are utilized at this stage of the project management plan development process to influence the outcome of the Project Management Plan components.   See 4.2.1

Tools and Techniques

A tool used for Develop Project Management Plan is the Facilitation Techniques.  These are broadly identified as a myriad interpersonal technique to facilitate communication, management, and leadership.  In PMGT611 we wrote a blog which described an experience we had in Team Dynamics.  This describes the process, conflicts and gave an analysis of what could have been down to improve the facilitation process.  See 4.2.2

Output

The final outcome of the develop project management plan process is the Project Management Plan.  At the beginning of this program we struggled through our ignorance and developed a project plan for an eco friendly home construction.  it was a baptism by fire as we had to learn each process to develop the plan.  See 4.2.3
